In December 2020, I received a text asking me to go for a walk….

It was a beautiful day and a great excuse to get outside. I hopped in the car and drove down to Lafarge and did our usual 3 laps. Lots of chatting about the holidays and COVID of course.

We often spoke about baking as Trina loved to bake. I was talking to her about my newly renewed hobby of cookie decorating and if I had my choice I would quit my job and just bake cookies. I had thought a lot about starting a home based business. it was this conversation that inspired the MacShack Cookiery.

Trina wasn’t working and I asked if she would be interested in joining me… She hesitated for a hot second and said “I don’t know… I don’t want to talk to people”. We laughed (as it was such a Trina thing to say). She said” if I don’t have to talk to people, I am all in.”

A new adventure for old friends…. She was a perfect partner as she has such an eye for detail and was an amazing baker. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to discuss this again as this would be the 2nd to last time I saw her.

A year passed with lots of tears, doubts and fears filling our home. In November 2021, I remembered that conversation and with the support of my husband, I decided we would venture out into the unknown world of opening a business in memory of our dear friend. She gave us the courage to step out of our comfort zone and venture out to do something we never thought we could do.

The logo was carefully thought out and there are memories of Trina embedded within.

In addition, we plan on using the profits from all June sales to match all donations up to $1000 to create a Culinary scholarship in Trina’s name for aspiring bakers/chefs graduating from school district 43 and enrolled in a culinary school. Award winners will be chosen in consultation with the culinary program teachers from across the district. We will ensure that there will always be at least one $1000 scholarship annually.

Trina June Hunt

Born June 6, 1972

Taken from us far too soon. Trina was a dear friend of the MacLeans for 32 years. She was a loyal friend who we grew up with. She was there for every benchmark moment of our lives and we were there for hers.

A surrogate aunt to our three children, she loved to play with them, rile them up and then with a wicked smile on her face hand them back.

Trina loved to entertain, no event was too small to over plan for, as she introduced us to foreign foods and exotic beverages. She loved to research the details of everything she did. Her pre-travel binders were legendary.

Our favourite memories of Trina are the nonsensical debates about anything and everything as we played at being on dichotomous sides of any topic as long as there was a glass of wine in one hand and appetizer in the other. Trina had a wickedly dark sense of humour that she rarely shared outside her close knit group of family and friends. She made us gutt laugh and we miss her dearly.
